5 things to do in Pristina

Pristina is the capital of Kosovo. One of the Baltic countries between Macedonia and Serbia. However, politically Serbia does not recognize Kosovo as an independant country so make sure you enter and leave Kosovo from Macedonia or Albania.

City of Pristina is very beautiful and full of energy, the has a vibe which is very pleasant and energetic. The centre is filled with cafes, restaurants and young people.  During my visit I managed to pen down 5 things you cannot miss while visiting pristina. I took a bus from Skopje to Pristina and back, during my visit I walked from bus station which is a bit out of the centre; towards the Bill clinton statue and i knew the centre was not far away.

1. City centre

Enjoy the wide range of cafes and restaurants in this beautiful walking stretch. The feeling is like any other European country and you will have a great meal at a reasonable price. I went to a few cafes and restaurants and later took a walk to around the city to explore the architechture of its mosques, churches and the library.

2. Pristina National library

To understand the story behind this building one must understand that I spent several hours in and around this building and found the architecture to be quite amazing; however this building has been named as one of the ugliest buildings in the world. But I guess beauty lies in the eyes of observer. The architecture is unique and no where I have seen something similar before before and it is a very good library too.

3. New Born

This is a metallic  art installation and has great social messages for the people. As the tale recited by a local, the monument was formed as a part of the free thinkers moment during independence and the installation changes each year, to signify new events or social messages for the people.

4. Mother Teresa Cathedral
It one of the biggest Catholic Churches in Pristina, even bigger than some of the mosques. 1 euro entry fee to the stairs will give you a great view to the city and the national library. Definitely worth a visit. People of Kosovo associate mostly with Muslim religion, despite that fact there are several mosques all over the city, each one having great touch of architecture, starting from the Ottoman Empire until present day. Mother teresa Cathedral was build to pay respect to the nun who was born in Skopje Macedonia and spent most of her like in Calcutta(now Kolkata), India.

5. Germia park
The park is located outside of the chaos of the city and is quite peaceful. A good hike and if the weather if good there is a lake for a nice swim in the park. I highly recommend a visit on a sunny day. Though there are several other parks inside the city but this one os special for its long walks and the lake.
